Ancient historic residence, once belonging to an important noble family from Alessano, was completely abandoned to decay. Despite this, or perhaps because of this, we fell in love with it at first sight.

What are courtyard houses?
They are ancient and humble Salento homes usually consisting of one or two rooms. So called because they were brought together and united by a single external space, the courtyard, in which the main activities of life in the past took place. In every courtyard there was always a well (from which to extract water) and a stone wash house (pila) where women washed clothes. There were even several families living in each small house in the courtyard! Today these humble homes with their typical barrel or star vaults, stone fireplaces and their splendid mosaics have been expertly restored.
