Underground tour

Presicce is a wonderful village in the lower Salento, a mosaic of churches and stately buildings that adorn the historic center. In addition to this there are humble residences (the Courtyard Houses) and the underground oil mills. With its 23 underground oil mills, mostly located among the ancient alleys, it is undoubtedly the country with the highest concentration of underground oil mills. Among these, 8 are in the central Piazza del Popolo. The tour consists of a suggestive and interesting itinerary inside some underground oil mills, reachable only through some small hidden stairways. Once you reach the underground, a specialized guide will explain the details of the ancient oil art. The details of life in the mills will be illustrated and will make you relive the atmosphere of the time for a moment. At the end of the tour it will also be possible to visit the Museum of Rural Life inside the Doge’s Palace. In this way it will be possible to discover the aspects of everyday life, agricultural work and the “trades” practiced by the people from Presicce of the past.
